Mother Blessing Ceremony
A bespoke ceremony to honour, support and celebrate your journey into motherhood
Fancy an alternative to a baby shower?
A Mother’s Blessing Ceremony is an event that creates space to honour, support and celebrate a woman’s journey into motherhood.
It’s an alternative to a traditional baby shower, with the main difference being the focus is entirely on you, the mother-to-be, rather than the baby.
I have partnered with the talented Tamsin – Nourishing Doula, to offer this service. You can hire us to organise and facilitate your Mother’s Blessing Ceremony.
What is a Mother’s Blessing Ceremony?
A Mother’s Blessing (also known as a Blessing Way) is an alternative to a baby shower, with the main difference being that everything is centred around you, rather than the baby.
The Mother’s Blessing ceremony involves the mother-to-be gathering in-person with her close friends and family members. The aim is to shower her with love and bless her on her journey into motherhood.
The event creates space to honour, support and celebrate the mother-to-be. It also focusses on the emotional and spiritual aspects of the birth journey, rather than the monetary and physical gift giving aspects of a traditional baby shower.
Examples of what your Mother's Blessing Ceremony might include…
Speaking or offering written words of support and wishes for mother and baby.
Giving massage or pampering to the mother- to-be.
A ball of cord gets passed around the circle and tied round each woman's wrists. The cord is then kept on everyone’s wrists so that they hold the mother-to-be in their minds and will only take the cord off once the baby is born.
Everyone is given a candle to take home and light, to send their well wishes during the labour.
Each guest brings a bead to make a necklace or another object for the mother-to-be. This is for her to have during labour and beyond so she will remember she can always call upon her friends’ love and support through this treasure.
Everyone writes a letter of support to the mum-to-be. Once baby is born, I will send one a month in the post to help mamma on her postpartum journey.
Everyone brings a special item to create a nurturing altar space at home for the mother-to-be.
Decorating a dream catcher, which will hold the group’s hopes, wishes and love for the mamma and her unborn baby.
Making bath salts with oils and herbs for the mother’s postpartum recovery.
Guests could each be asked to bring a dish for the freezer (to help mamma during the weeks after the birth) or be invited to sign up on a rota to bring food round the week after the birth.
Once the ceremony is finished, we would then feast together. Friends are asked to each bring a dish, or my doula colleague and experienced chef Tamsin can make a delicious and nutritious dish for everyone to share and enjoy together.
